Ferrum: The Most Affordable Small Town in VA

Cost of living makes a big difference when choosing where to move -- and not all places were created equal. The most affordable small town in every state has been identified by www.BusinessInsider.com. (They defined 'small town' as towns with populations between 1,000 and 10,000.)

Ferrum has been identified as the most affordable small town in Virginia, with 94.2% of homes being deemed affordable. Ferrum was also cited as being home to Ferrum College, named one of US News' best regional colleges in the South this year.

REALTORS® Applaud New Net Neutrality Rules
REALTORS® welcome the passage of new rules by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to protect true net neutrality, which are essential to the modern business of real estate that is increasingly conducted online.

REALTORS® are pleased that the FCC will implement net neutral practices and prohibit paid prioritization, which would have created a two-tiered Internet and put REALTORS® and other small business owners at a competitive disadvantage. The new rules are a victory for consumers, and for REALTORS® who embrace technology and online resources to meet the needs of their clients.

The FCC's new rules will become effective within 60 days of their publication in the Federal Register.

REALTOR® Confidence Index
The National Association of REALTORS® has just released the results of its survey of 50,000 REALTORS® nationwide regarding local market conditions.

The survey results indicated a broad uptick in confidence and market activity. REALTORS® reported more buyer activity in their markets on the heels of lower mortgage rates but not enough inventory to match demand. Inventory was reported as low in most areas, especially for "fresh" and "affordable" listings. A lower than normal level of new construction contributed to the lack of inventory.

Looking ahead at the spring market and the increased buying interest, REALTORS® were broadly optimistic about the outlook for the next six months, based largely on the positive effect of low mortgage rates and lower mortgage insurance premium payments.
