FHA Accepting E-Signatures

If you're working with FHA, you might be able to save some time and aggravation by taking advantage of electronic signatures on some documents. Both NAR and VAR have been encouraging FHA to accept electronic signatures for some time.

According to VAR's Chief of Policy and Advocacy Martin Johnson, "There is no doubt REALTORS who embrace digital transactions can provide their buyers and sellers with a more cost-effective, safer and efficient transaction. Our land records are digitally stored with our circuit court clerks. Virginia law allows for digital signatures on any document, including real estate contracts. Virginia law allows for electronic recording of deeds and deeds of trusts, and for electronic notarizations. The last step in the process was to ensure that FHA would accept the documents."

VAR's Jay DeBoer Tapped to Head DPOR

Governor Terry McAuliffe has appointed VAR legal consultant Jay DeBoer as Director of the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR). DPOR oversees the Virginia Real Estate Board and 16 other regulatory boards, from architects and asbestos inspectors to barbers and boxers.

This is not DeBoer's first time at the helm of DPOR; he served as Director from 2006 until 2010. Since then, while working at VAR, he's helped thousands of REALTORS across the commonwealth with a long list of real estate topics, and -- thanks to his previous DPOR experience -- he's been VAR's resident expert on anything related to the Department.

DeBoer also served in the General Assembly as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates for nineteen years.
