National Flood Insurance Program Extended -- Again!

The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) has been extended until September 30, 2020. This marks the 15th extension (and longest) in about two years. The NFIP had been set to expire on December 20, 2019.

The National Association of REALTORS®  supports and continues to push for a long-term authorization of the NFIP along with meaningful reforms to improve the program.

Another extension as part of the same funding bill was the reauthorization of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program for seven years. Terrorism risk insurance is often required to secure necessary financing for commercial transactions. Posted 1/17/2020

National Flood Insurance Program Extended

Congress has extended the National Flood Insurance Program through November 21, 2019. (The Program was set to expire on September 30th.) The National Association of Realtors continues to urge Congress to work on a long-term reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program.

Realtors strongly support the NFIP Reauthorization Act, which includes a 5-year extension as well as significant reforms to improve mapping, enhance mitigation and remove obstacles to private flood insurance. The legislation has been unanimously approved by the House Financial Services Committee and offers a sensible bipartisan alternative to further stopgap extensions and lapses. Posted 9/30/19
