On June 4th, Congress passed the Disaster Relief bill which included an extension of the National Flood Insurance Program through the end of September. This bill is now awaiting the President's signature. Posted June 5, 2019.

Flood Insurance Extended Until May 31

On Friday, December 21st, Congress passed an extension of the National Flood Insurance Program until May 31, avoiding a lapse that would have begun that night. The President is expected to sign the bill.

NAR appeciates that Congress extended the National Flood Insurance Program before it expired; however, continues to encourage lawmakers to craft responsible, long-term reauthorization that includes meaningful reforms.

UPDATE: On Thursday, December 27th, FEMA ruled that the flood insurance program cannot be extended during the government shutdown. On Friday, December 28th, FEMA reversed its position -- thanks in part to efforts by NAR, Congress and several insurance organizations.
