Roanoke Named a Top Digital City for 15th Time |
|
The winners of the 2015 Digital Cities Survey have been announced. The City of Roanoke was ranked second among the cities in the 75,000 to 124,000 population category. Roanoke has maintained its status as a Top Digital City since 2000. Open to all US cities, this year's survey focused on cities using technology to engage citizens, improve services and boost efficiencies. Other Virginia cities who won in their population size categories are: Alexandria (1st place), Virginia Beach (5th), Hampton (7th), Manassas (7th) and Williamsburg (7th). |

Employment Growing in Roanoke Region |

A strengthening economy is showing in the newest employment figures, announced on October 29th. And with anticipated seasonal growth later this year, the region is likely to finish with the strongest private sector employment numbers since 2008. Private sector employment in the Roanoke metro area in September, 2015 was at the highest point of any September since 2008 with more than 139,400 workers, up 500 workers from September, 2014. Employment gains in the past year appear to have come mainly from growth in leisure and hospitality, manufacturing and financial activities. The RVAR 2016 Board of Directors has been confirmed. With one petition filed, there were no contested seats, thus no election by ballot is required this fall. Congratulations to these newly elected Officers: 2016 President-elect Kathy Chandler (MKB) and 2016 Vice President Connie Hash (MKB).
