USA Today just announced the results of its "10 Best Southern Small Towns" contest. Congratulations to Floyd, the #9 best Southern small town, noted as a popular stop along the Blue Rdige Parkway and as an artists' enclave with many galleries, studios and events. Roanoke was ranked among the top markets for starting a new business by the site nerdwallet.com. Ranked 22nd out of 183 metro markets considered, Roanoke was the top market in the state of Virginia. The ranking was based on performance in several business and economic metrics. Approximately 60 percent of the score was based on the business environment including average business revenue. Around 40 percent of the score was based on overall economic conditions and included median income, median annual housing cost and the unemployment rate. |

Roanoke was featured as one of the ten best destinations for a weekend mountain bike getaway by SingleTracks.com. Ranking the Roanoke Region third on the list of weekend mountain biking getaways, the site mentions that only a truly dedicated rider could ever hit all the trails Roanoke has to offer on a 3-day trip.
