How to Become a RVAR Member

How to Join RVAR

For the new real estate licensee, joining the Roanoke Valley Association of REALTORS® (RVAR) includes joining the Virginia REALTORS® (VAR) and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). It is your NAR membership that designates a licensee as a REALTOR®. Please contact the RVAR office to schedule your new member appointment.

Becoming a real estate salesperson licensee

Enroll in a Principles of Real Estate class offered by a licensed real estate school. As a student, you will be trained for the purpose of taking the state licensing exam for a real estate salesperson. For those who pass the school’s final exam, additional guidance will be provided by the school for taking the Virginia real estate salesperson licensing exam. Once you pass the Virginia exam, the state of Virginia will hold your license.

Once the state of Virginia has your license, what is next?

Your license will be held by the state awaiting its transfer to the broker of your choice. If you have not already interviewed with one or more brokers, now is the time to begin the interview process.

Once there is an agreement between you and a specific broker, then the broker will submit authorization to have your license transferred to the broker’s real estate firm. When you become an agent licensed with that broker’s real estate firm, now is the time to schedule your new member appointment with RVAR.

Your new member appointment with RVAR

In addition to receiving your payment for RVAR, VAR and NAR dues, RVAR will add you to NAR’s national member database, open your account with the MLS system (if applicable), set up your Supra eKey account (if applicable) and provide you with a new member packet.

Membership Applications

An individual’s membership to the Roanoke Valley Association of REALTORS® has prerequisites that the individual has an active Virginia real estate license and the firm’s Broker must be a member of the Roanoke Valley Association of REALTORS®.
